  • West Tennessee will mark Independence Day with community celebrations from June 27 to July 5, featuring fireworks displays, parades, and festivals in towns like Huntingdon and Milan — offering many family-friendly ways to celebrate freedom.  WBBJ-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jackson will host a celebration for gospel icon Dottie Peoples on August 2 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, honoring her birthday month, longtime ties and new music release — tickets cost $33.  WNBJ 39
  • Jackson native comic book artist Mike Norton will hold a free signing event at Comics Universe on Saturday, July 5 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Fans can meet him + purchase his popular comic books at the store.  WBBJ TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Union University will lower tuition for its adult undergraduate programs in its School of Adult and Professional Studies and Memphis College of Urban and Theological Studies starting in the fall semester. The tuition rate will drop from $504 to $400 per credit hour (plus the general student fee) to help working adults afford their education.  WBBJ-TV
