- ➤ Lisa Lovelace was honored as a Community Champion for her work at the Beech Bluff recreation center in partnership with Leaders Credit Union, where she renovated the lobby and gym and secured grants for new equipment. She organizes monthly activities that bring everyone together and accepts donations delivered to the center or mailed to 4488 Beech Bluff Road — her efforts help make the center a safe and welcoming place. - ➤ Jackson State Community College named Thaddeus Jefferson as Director of Recruitment today—he brings over 15 years of enrollment experience from his roles at Rust College, South Carolina State University, and local Tennessee colleges to help recruit new students. WBBJ-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Tennessee Highway Patrol released a list of sobriety checkpoints for July 2025—aimed at deterring impaired driving across the state; in Jackson District 8, checkpoints will be set up on routes like Carroll US 79 and Decatur roads and will include seat belt stops. - ➤ The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency halted its planned license fee hike after lawmakers promised to find other funding for wildlife conservation — boat registration fees will increase on July 1 — as the agency works through a major budget shortfall. WNBJ 39
- ➤ A study by Hasbrook & Hasbrook Personal Injury Lawyers found Tennessee ranked as the fourth most dangerous state for commuters with 4.4 accidents per 10,000 commuters and a 25-minute average commute, while the state’s 3.3 billion dollars Transportation Modernization Act signed in 2023 may boost safety in the future.
