  • Yesterday, Care Connections 731 partnered with Hub City Hemp to hand out dignity bags filled with hygiene items, socks, and snacks to unhoused residents in downtown Jackson and provided free opioid overdose reversal training with Narcan kits. The nonprofit will host another giveaway on July 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  WYN 106.9
  • Youth Villages is seeking foster parents for children in West Tennessee—families can join free virtual info sessions on July 1 at 6 p.m. CT, July 12 at 10 a.m. CT, July 17 at 6 p.m. CT, and July 26 at 10 a.m. CT—to learn about training, support, and financial assistance for foster care.  WYN 106.9

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On June 25th, Kroger invested $5 million to renovate two Jackson stores with expanded meat and bakery departments, brighter lighting, and a new drive-thru pharmacy at one location while honoring long-time employees. Kroger also donated $10,000 to local nonprofits — $5,000 to the Regional Inter-Faith Association, $2,500 to The Dream Center, and $2,500 to Youth Town — to support community programs.  The Jackson Sun
  • Raina Shults, owner of Sprinkle Me Sugar, joined a local news segment to discuss the new shop location and a collection of flavors inspired by American desserts — she highlighted how the menu showcases classic tastes.  WYN 106.9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Young stargazers in Jackson will attend 'The Cowboy Astronomer'—a kids' summer planetarium show that explains constellations and the night sky—on July 11 at 3:45 p.m. at the MD Anderson Planetarium on Lambuth Boulevard.  WNBJ 39

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TDOT announced it will stop all construction-related lane closures on interstates and state routes from noon on July 3 until 6:00 a.m. on July 7 to help drivers avoid delays during the Fourth of July weekend—workers may still be on-site and long-term closures will continue with reduced speed limits in work zones.  WBBJ-TV
