COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tate Cronin (Marketing and Communications Specialist with the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center) joined the show to share details on the upcoming 2025 Summer Celebration.  WYN 106.9
  • Firefighters and volunteers are setting up parking spaces, a stage, portable restrooms and a fireworks base at Jackson Regional Airport for the 12th Annual Firefighters Freedom Festival, which will offer water attractions and rides for kids. Today, gates open at 4 p.m. and live music begins at 5 p.m., and the event is free except for food purchases.  WYN 106.9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TDOT is planning road construction and repairs across West Tennessee from July 2 to July 9 that will affect several routes. Interstates and state highways will have no lane closures during the holiday travel period from July 3 at 12:00 noon to July 7 at 6:00 a.m. (work includes projects on I-40, SR-69, and SR-1 in several counties).  WYN 106.9
  • Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett—along with the Tennessee Hospital Association and Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association—today reminded parents to use the free 'Baby in the Back' car hangtag program to help prevent heat-related illnesses and child deaths. The hangtag acts as a visible reminder for drivers to check their vehicles, and nearly 600,000 have been requested so far.  WYN 106.9
  • Jackson Police Chief Thom Corley will receive the Excellence in Police Services Award from the Tennessee Municipal League in August—recognizing his strong leadership and commitment to the community. He was also named Chief of the Year in 2024—crediting his department’s teamwork and the principles of community policing, collaborative policing, and constitutional policing.  WNBJ 39

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local health experts warn Jackson residents not to leave food out for more than one hour during today's Fourth of July cookouts when temperatures exceed 90°F. They advise keeping cold dishes on ice+using separate utensils to prevent cross-contamination and food poisoning.  WNBJ 39
