COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army Jackson Corps will launch its Stuff the Bus campaign at participating Walmart stores in Jackson and nearby towns starting on July 19, as shoppers can donate school supplies to help children in need on select Saturdays until July 26. Donations will remain local—directly benefiting students through school district and community organization partnerships.  WYN 106.9
  • The Jackson Animal Care Center will host the 2025 Pets Rock! Fest on July 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jackson Fairgrounds—this event will raise funds for its low-cost spay and neuter program that provided over 5,000 surgeries in the past four years. The festival will offer food, music and vendors—giving pet owners a fun day while supporting essential animal care services.  WNBJ 39

CULTURE NEWS

  • The annual Jackson Sings the Gospel event returns with four nights of praise — featuring acts like Triumphant Quartet, The Hoppers, Gold City and Karen Peckner River. Shows begin at 7 p.m. with matinees at 1 p.m. on Thursday and Friday — Saturday includes a National Gospel Music Search at 10 a.m., and tickets are available at the Carl Perkins Civic Center box office.  WBBJ TV
  • Hub City Theatre Company will show the musical The Last Five Years this August at Turntable Coffee on East Main Street — with performances on August 1 at 7:30 p.m., August 2 at 7:30 p.m., and a matinee on August 3 at 3 p.m., telling the story of rising novelist Jamie and struggling actress Cathy through five years of their lives.  WNBJ 39
  • The Waiting band will celebrate its 30th anniversary on July 25 at Hub City Brewing at 250 West Main Street in Jackson from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.—the event will feature surprise guest appearances and rare on-stage collaborations with proceeds benefiting The Carl Perkins Center for abused and neglected children.  WNBJ 39

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Tennessee Highway Patrol held a recruitment event in Jackson and is accepting applications until July 14. Candidates must have a valid driver license, a clean record, and a willingness to serve—those with law enforcement experience will complete 11 weeks of lateral training with a starting pay of $71,820 (or 17 weeks of basic training with a start of $68,724) and an extra $10,000 for Shelby County placements.  WBBJ-TV
  • Jackson received a 2025 AARP Community Challenge grant to launch an Accessory Dwelling Unit Design Competition aimed at creating affordable housing options for residents 50 and older by accepting design submissions from students and professionals in the coming months — the three winning designs will result in pre-approved ADU plans available for public use.  WYN 106.9
