COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Carl Perkins Civic Center will host Black Tie + Blue Jeans on August 2 at 6 p.m. as a fundraiser to support local heart health initiatives with community entertainment and fellowship.  WNBJ 39

CRIME NEWS

  • Madison County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help to locate 16 year old Kourtney Lynn King who left her Jackson home on July 13 during the late evening and was last seen on July 14 at 7:43 a.m. near the picnic area at Beech Lake in Lexington walking north toward Highway 104; anyone with tips should call the sheriff at 731+423+6000, the Lexington Police at 731+968+2211, or Crime Stoppers at 731+424+8477.  WYN 106.9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the first annual Summer Break Film, Acting and Production Camp begins at The Ned for teenagers aged 13 to 18, where they will learn film acting and production skills from local experts from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.—camp organizers hope the program sparks a lasting interest in filmmaking.  WYN 106.9
  • The Jackson Animal Care Center will host Pets Rock! Fest on July 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Jackson Fairgrounds at 800 S. Highland Ave.—the family-friendly festival will feature events such as Dock Dogs, a Doggie Foam Party, and the Weenie Dog Run, plus pet services like microchipping and spay/neuter vouchers with $5 tickets benefiting the spay/neuter program.  WYN 106.9
  • The Jackson Rockabillys announced that the Jackson City Fair will be held from August 20th to 24th in the Rockabillys Stadium parking lots and will feature carnival rides, food, and tethered hot-air balloon rides on August 23rd and 24th. Universal Fairs will organize the event, marking the stadium’s first use for a fair (balloon ride tickets begin today with early booking advised).  WYN 106.9
  • Jackson-Madison County Library at 433 East Lafayette Street hosts a weekly event every Thursday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. where kids of all ages build with LEGO and DUPLO bricks + play board games.  WNBJ 39
  • The Jackson Choral Society invites singers to its first reading for the Fall concert 'The Labor of Hope' on August 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. at 1st United Methodist Church + rehearsals will continue every Monday at Clayton Hall until the November 22 concert.  WYN 106.9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Rep. Chris Todd is urging residents of House District 73 and all Tennesseans to participate in the upcoming back-to-school tax-free weekend, which will run from Friday, July 25 through Sunday, July 27. The tax break covers clothing and shoes priced at $100 or less, school supplies under $100, and computers and tablets under $1,500—designed to help families prepare for the new school year.  WYN 106.9
