COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Jackson’s Health and Sanitation Department will host its 11th Community Clean-Up Day on Saturday, August 9 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Public Works Yard at 164 Conalco Drive — residents can dispose of bulky items such as tires, mattresses, and furniture while free paper shredding is offered and the first 20 participants receive a large tarp.  WYN 106.9

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After a deadly assisted living fire in Massachusetts killed nine residents and sent over 30 to hospitals, Jackson fire crews reviewed local safety protocols—taking steps to protect residents as the investigation continues.  WNBJ 39

CRIME NEWS

  • Kourtney Lynn King (16) has been missing from her Jackson home since the evening of July 13 and was last seen near Beech Lake in Lexington wearing a gray sweatshirt, pink skirt, and black sandals, with authorities urging anyone with information to call law enforcement.  WNBJ 39

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jackson-Madison County Library will host a summer art exhibit from July 28 through August 2 (including 731 Day) in its hallway at 433 East Lafayette Street; local artists will display works that show West TN creativity.  WNBJ 39
  • The rock band Skillet will perform in Jackson on Friday, October 3 in the Rockabillys concert series — tickets will go on sale Friday, July 18 at 10 a.m. —.  WNBJ 39

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After nine people died in a fire at a Massachusetts facility, the Jackson Fire Department said local assisted living homes must have solid emergency plans and hold drills—ensuring staff know how to help residents in crises. Fire Marshall Latrell Billingsley noted that his crews regularly inspect alarms, exits, and sprinklers and meet with each facility to review their procedures.  WNBJ 39

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Tennessee Vols star Trey Smith from Jackson will sign a four-year extension worth $94 million with the Kansas City Chiefs, making him the NFL's highest-paid offensive guard. ESPN reported the contract, which guarantees $70 million, was announced on July 15.  The Jackson Sun
