  • Jackson’s Love Your Block program will seek volunteers on July 25 and 26 to help residents maintain their property—community members who join will support neighbors needing property upkeep.  WNBJ 39
  • First Baptist Church of Bemis unveiled a new 24-foot cross on Friday morning — all materials were donated by church members and local businesses — to serve as a community landmark.  WYN 106.9
  • Deaton’s Carpet One Floor & Home celebrated its 50th anniversary in Jackson with a Made in America event that served free hotdogs and apple pie tarts. Local guests thanked the longtime business for five decades of service to the community.  WYN 106.9

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a major investment to build AI data centers in Ohio and Louisiana + he did not confirm any plans for centers in Tennessee. Local projects in Gallatin, Nashville, and Memphis continue to grow as affordable land and reliable energy attract tech developments.  The Jackson Sun
  • Between July 11 and July 18, restaurant inspections in West Tennessee showed most Jackson eateries earned scores of 99 or 100, while a few establishments received lower marks—ranging from 75 to 84 and with no inspections done in Hardin County. The report covered over 30 inspections across multiple counties — a clear snapshot of local restaurant performance.  WYN 106.9

CRIME NEWS

  • TBI announced that Christopher Pierce, involved in a road rage incident on Old Hickory Boulevard near the 45 Bypass, fired a shot at officers at about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday and later died at a local hospital—no officers were injured as investigators work to gather more details.  WYN 106.9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dinner on the Hotel Lawn is a gala fundraiser set for August 23 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 31 Country Club Lane — featuring fine dining, live music, guest speakers and a curated art auction — that will raise funds for local arts initiatives.  WNBJ 39
  • Jackson Madison County Library will host a Black History Book Club meeting on Thursday, July 24, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the main branch (433 East Lafayette Street) where readers will discuss Black history, culture, and literature.  WNBJ 39

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Theta Iota chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated and the Jackson-Madison County School System will host a Community Cookout and Back to School Supply Giveaway on Sunday, July 27 at the T.R. White Sportsplex on North Hays Street, offering free school supplies, backpacks for grades K-8, and activities such as rock climbing, bouncers, an obstacle course, face painting, balloon making, cotton candy, and a game truck + free food from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. as the event starts at noon rain or shine.  WYN 106.9
