  • K-pop fans in West Tennessee will gather at STEP OUT: Stay 143 on Friday, September 26 at 7 p.m. at 3563 North Highland Avenue—organized by the K-pop Collective of West TN to offer music, giveaways and a fun chance to socialize.  WNBJ 39
  • Jackson-Madison County Library in downtown Jackson will host a range of programs in August for children, teens and adults that include story times for young kids, teen advisory meetings, art sessions, coding club and Dungeons & Dragons nights. The library will also offer adult classes in American Sign Language, computer skills, genealogy and line dancing while it closes on September 1 for Labor Day—readers can contact the library for more details.  WBBJ-TV
  • Families in Jackson are invited to the Community Cookout and Back-to-School Giveaway hosted by Omega Psi Phi and the Jackson-Madison County School System today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the JCM Field House on Lane Avenue (for students in grades K through 8).  WNBJ 39

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Denver Air Connection now offers direct flights from Jackson to Atlanta and Chicago with both flights departing before noon — the Atlanta route starts at 8 a.m. Last week, it carried 77 passengers and its full-size jet service with flight attendants and interline agreements gives West Tennessee travelers quick connections without driving to Memphis or Nashville.  WBBJ-TV
  • Restaurant inspection scores in West Tennessee were posted for July 18th to 24th and ranged from 82 to 100 — the report covers scores from many counties including Madison and notes strong marks at Jackson locations like Nutrition By The Ballpark and Jackson Donuts.  WYN 106.9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jackson’s Rockabillys Stadium at 4 Fun Place will host a free screening of Jaws on July 28 at 8 p.m. Local residents may bring chairs or blankets to enjoy the film — concessions will be available for purchase.  WBBJ-TV

  • On Friday, many Jackson shoppers saved money during Tennessee's tax-free weekend—buying school supplies, clothing, and electronics before back-to-school. Qualifying items include school supplies, clothing priced under $100, and laptops and tablets under $1,500—offers that stretched budgets for many families.  WNBJ 39

  • Lane College announced that Dr. Lawrence Potter will serve as the new Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs and will also teach English this Monday — he served at Canisius University and brings more than 27 years of higher education experience.  WNBJ 39
