  • Mandy White has spent 26 years at the Greater Jackson chamber as chief economic development officer and has worked with companies to recruit manufacturers and secure over $3.5 million in grants for local projects. She also serves as RIFA board president and on the rescue board for Southeast GSP—placing over 150 dogs in homes and helping to feed those in need.  WBBJ-TV
  • RIFA will host its Pack the Bus event on Aug. 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at five Jackson locations to support the Snack Backpack ministry that helps kids get weekend meals + last year the drive donated over 16,000 pounds of food.  WNBJ 39

CRIME NEWS

  • Jackson Police Department officers were seen at a residence on Tanglewood Lane at 9:30 a.m. yesterday with Jackson Fire Department arriving at 10:15 a.m.—officials are investigating the large presence.  WYN 106.9

  • On July 25, the Jimmy Church Band headlined the 6th night of the Delta Faucet Summer Concert Series at Jackson’s Amphitheatre at the Market — drawing a large crowd as Jackson State Community College announced a $1,000 scholarship winner.  The Jackson Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jenny Miles was named the new executive director for University of Memphis at Lambuth Campus in Jackson—she brings over 30 years of college work experience. She will meet faculty and students when classes start this fall and will host a new student orientation on August 12 with a $1,200 scholarship.  WYN 106.9

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ginger Rowsey from the Jackson Public Health Department said residents are struggling with nonstop high temperatures as heat indices reach 115 and families worry about cooling down and soaring energy bills. An extreme heat warning is in effect through today at 8:00 p.m.—residents are urged to take simple steps to stay cool and avoid heat-related illness.  WNBJ 39
