The Jackson Store opened its first physical store at 1410-F East Chester Street in east Jackson Thursday afternoon after five years as an online retailer selling Jackson apparel & hosting local vendors selling refreshments, crafts & artwork.

The store now operates Friday through Tuesday starting at 11 a.m. and closes on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

U.S. Marshals attempted to serve a warrant for Jamar Hardiman, wanted for skipping trial on multiple felony charges including drug and weapons offenses, at a Jackson home; instead he barricaded himself in the attic and his wife Crysta Hardiman was arrested for allegedly helping him hide — both have been booked into Madison County Jail.

On July 29, Cypress Grove Nature Park hosted its first research forum where local scientists presented studies on visitor trends, bird counts, and a new wasp species.

Recreational Coordinator Darius Mullin said he hopes the forum (which also featured research by Lane College students) will become an annual event to connect local science experts.

The Jackson Police Department launched its Bike Patrol Unit to patrol parks, neighborhoods and events like the Jackson International Food and Arts Festival after finishing a four-day training on June 31.

The battery-powered bicycles will serve as extra patrols for certified officers and mark the first bike unit since the 1990s—designed to deter crime and boost community safety.
