CRIME NEWS

  • TBI says Austin Robert Drummond remains at large after being named an armed and dangerous suspect charged with four counts of first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, and firearm offenses in connection with the July 29 Tiptonville quadruple homicide — he was last seen in Jackson driving a white 2016 Audi A3 with damage to the driver's side.  The Jackson Sun

CULTURE NEWS

  • Organizers moved Porchfest 2025 to September 13 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Lambuth Area Neighborhood to beat the heat. New attractions include a Poetry Porch hosted by The Griot Collective and a Kids’ Stage with acts by Music with Alice and the Jackson Theatre Guild—promising a fun, family-friendly evening in Jackson.  WNBJ 39
  • Today the City of Jackson and the Jazz Foundation of West Tennessee honored jazz pioneer Christine Chatman—who played with Frank Sinatra, Dinah Washington and Lou Rawls—by unveiling a historical marker at South Royal Street. Her legacy in jazz continues to inspire local music fans.  WNBJ 39

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Jackson-Madison County Library will offer free computer classes to help community members improve their digital skills, and one-hour sessions will be held on select Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to noon at 433 East Lafayette Street — on August 13, August 27, September 10, and September 24 — with library staff available to assist participants.  WNBJ 39
  • The Tennessee Higher Education Commission announced on August 1st that the TN Promise application for the Class of 2026 is open—students can apply for tuition-free college at community colleges, TCATs, and other eligible institutions with a deadline of November 3rd. This application also serves as the entry point for Tennessee’s new Direct Admissions Pilot Program.  WBBJ-TV
