  • Madison County Fire Rescue crews searched for two missing autistic children and found them safe on Sunday evening along Riverside Drive between Pope Road and Rochelle Road—rescue officials said quick community support helped locate the children.  WNBJ 39

CRIME NEWS

  • Federal officials stated in court filings that suspect Austin Drummond, charged with four counts of first-degree murder in the Lake County killings, is believed to have possibly fled Tennessee after Tanaka Brown and Giovonte Thomas were arrested as accessories while authorities offered a joint reward of $17,500 for leads.  The Jackson Sun
  • Law enforcement agencies are searching today for dangerous fugitive Austin Drummond at West Jackson Baptist Church with helicopters, drones, and dogs while residents along Pipkin Road & Pleasant Plains Road are asked to send doorbell footage and three alleged accomplices have been arrested in connection with charges that include four counts of first degree murder, aggravated kidnapping & weapons charges.  WNBJ 39

  • Pope School welcomed students back in its brand new building on Monday, Aug. 4—parents dropped off children as teachers guided them through new classrooms and learning spaces.  The Jackson Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Jackson announced on Monday that applications for the 2025 Neighborhood Improvement Project Grant — part of the Love Your Block program — are now open to community groups planning projects to improve neighborhood quality of life. The grants include two $5,000 awards, two $2,500 awards, and up to four $1,000 awards.  WBBJ-TV
