- ➤ The $48 million new Pope School opened on Aug. 4 on Ashport Road and will serve 1,250 students from pre-school through eighth grade. The building features a 10,000-square foot safe room—built to withstand an EF-5 tornado—and a sound stage that converts to an amphitheater, replacing the historic school from 1909. The Jackson Sun
