COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jackson will host the Children’s Entrepreneur Market on August 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at 91 New Market Street — this event lets kids showcase and sell their products while gaining real-world business skills. Families and community members are encouraged to attend and support the young vendors.  WNBJ 39
  • The Jackson Madison County Library will host tabletop game nights for teens and adults starting August 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. — additional sessions are scheduled for September 4, September 18, and October 2 at 433 East Lafayette Street.  WNBJ 39

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A semi truck lost hundreds of eggs on the 45 bypass in Jackson this morning—forcing authorities to close part of the road for cleanup—and no injuries were reported.  WNBJ 39

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Muddy Paws Dog Wash opened on Saturday, Aug 9 as Jackson’s first self-serve dog wash, offering a 15-minute bath for $15 with hypoallergenic shampoo, towels, and treats (located on North Star Drive) and is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. (walk-in service is available).  WBBJ-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hattiloo Theatre, a nonprofit Black performing arts theatre, has partnered with Lane College to bring the production Jubilee to The Ned R. McWherter West Tennessee Arts Center in Jackson. The musical show, inspired by the Fisk Jubilee Singers, will run from August 28th to August 30th.  WYN 106.9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sarah Sabai from Emmanuel King Primary School in Tanzania spoke to preschoolers at Nova Early Learning Center about differences between American and African schools. She explained that her school in Gamasara grew from 10 to 260 students and that in Tanzania boys attend school while girls often stay home — a contrast to local practices in Jackson.  WNBJ 39

HEALTH NEWS

  • Back-to-school season brings new routines along with a rise in colds and flu in Jackson. Dr. Gabriella Dauer has introduced the first over-the-counter soft chewable cold and flu medicine for kids — a new tool for easy multi-symptom relief — and she advises parents to follow directions and call a doctor if symptoms continue.  WBBJ-TV
