  • Today, residents gathered at City Hall in Jackson for the 2025 Selfie Day despite the heat, and Miss Tennessee Volunteer 2026 Meghan Poor joined in the festivities. The city asked everyone to post their photos online with hashtags #CityHallSelfie and #JacksonTN.  WNBJ 39

CRIME NEWS

  • Between 12 a.m. on 8/11 and 8 a.m. on 8/12, several individuals were booked into the Madison County Jail for charges including criminal trespass, failure to appear, and evading arrest (booking does not imply guilt according to jail staff).  WYN 106.9

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 35th Annual African Street Festival will take place on Labor Day weekend—August 29-31—at T.R. White Sportsplex on 304 North Hays Avenue in Jackson, and the free event is hosted by SAACA.  WBBJ-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new COVID variant called Stratus spread in Tennessee and across the U.S. and became the third most common strain—data shows it grew from 0% to 14% in recent months while experts noted it causes hoarseness but no distinct symptoms. The CDC said vaccines remain effective and early trends show low emergency room visits in Tennessee.  The Jackson Sun
