CRIME NEWS

  • Today, Jackson Police Officers Troutt, Drown, and Compton — honored for their exceptional heroism — received a Letter of Commendation from U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller and Chief Duty Edge at the James D. Todd U.S. Courthouse for capturing Austin Drummond on August 6.  WBBJ-TV
  • From July 14 to July 25, the US Marshals Service led Operation Memphis Streets in Memphis to arrest 141 violent fugitives—including 14 wanted for homicide—and to clear 163 arrest warrants, while Jackson Police Department joined other agencies in the effort.  WBBJ-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jackson will host the 2025 African Street Festival from August 29 to 31 at 304 North Hays Avenue — a free, three-day event presented by SAACA that will feature live music, cultural performances, food vendors, art displays and activities celebrating African and African American heritage.  WNBJ 39
  • The Jazz Foundation of West Tennessee will honor blues legend Bobby Blue Bland at its fall concert on October 18 and 19 at 314 East Main in Jackson—headlined by Rodd Bland and the Members Only Band who will carry on his musical legacy.  WNBJ 39

HEALTH NEWS

  • On August 11, the FDA announced a recall of Clover Valley Instant Coffee sold at Dollar General after a customer found glass fragments that may cause injury. Jackson-area customers who bought the coffee between July 9 and July 21 should check container details for Lot numbers L-5163, L-5164, or L-5165—returning any unused product immediately— to avoid risks.  WYN 106.9
  • Lifeline Blood Services will host a fair-themed blood drive on August 21 from 9am to 6pm, inviting Jackson residents to donate blood to help local patients. Donors 18 and older will receive a limited-edition t-shirt, complimentary popcorn + cotton candy, and an entry to win concert tickets + a car giveaway.  WYN 106.9
