ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire at GSM Outdoors in Parsons on Aug. 30th forced evacuations and caused minor burns and heat exhaustion to firefighters treated at Henderson County Community Hospital while air tests showed no bad chemicals — officials say residents should stay away — as the building still smolders.  WYN 106.9

CRIME NEWS

  • Tipsters reported that police chased a red car starting in Madison County and entering Gibson County—and a wreck possibly involving a police vehicle occurred in Gibson County, officials said.  WYN 106.9

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 35th Annual African Street Festival by SAACA is happening in Jackson this weekend and has offered music, storytelling, tribal drum lessons, art, vendor booths, and local group information. It ended Saturday with an 8:30 p.m. show by Nashville’s Higher Ground Band—today it continues with more fun starting at 11 a.m. at the T.R. White Sportsplex.  WBBJ-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Thrive Wellness Expo kicked off at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Madison Downs Event Center in Jackson and offered community members information from holistic wellness providers, meditation coaches, chiropractors, doulas, and counselors. Guest speaker Heather Brooke urged more accessible mental health services for youth—organizers include 101.5 WNWS-FM News Talk Jackson, Hub City Doula, and What’s Happening Jackson.  WYN 106.9
