COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Early Friday, Jackson firefighters rescued a kitten trapped in a storm drain. When food to lure it failed, Captain Thompson guided the tiny animal safely out— it was not hurt and is now headed for a loving home.  WNBJ 39
  • The Dream Center will host Dreams Renewed 2026— a benefit event featuring dinner, silent and live auctions and a concert by Diamond Rio—at the Jackson Fairgrounds on January 17 at 5:30 p.m., with all proceeds supporting mothers with children experiencing homelessness.  WYN 106.9
  • On Saturday, October 25 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Scarlet Rope Project will host Wingfest 2025 at Hub City Brewing on West Main Street in Jackson. The event will feature a wing-cooking contest, silent auction and family-friendly activities to support women in need — uniting local residents.  WNBJ 39

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 2 p.m. Friday, a car crash in north Jackson uprooted a fire hydrant near West University Parkway and North Highland Avenue with water gushing high until crews from the Jackson Fire Department, Jackson Energy Authority, and Jackson Police Department controlled the scene after the vehicle was removed.  WYN 106.9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Jackson-Madison County School Board held a public hearing for the Jackson Museum School—an innovative charter school for students needing a different learning approach. The board now awaits a recommendation from the Tennessee Public Charter School Commission as a state charter vote is scheduled for October 16.  WBBJ TV
  • Tennessee school systems will soon teach gun safety to students starting in kindergarten—lessons will explain gun parts, safe storage, and when to tell an adult, with no live ammunition or real guns used. The new law aims to help kids understand firearm safety from an early age.  WNBJ 39

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Jackson Housing Authority began demolishing the Allenton Heights housing complex—an 80-year-old public housing project built in 1941 originally for white families. Former residents watched the demolition and shared mixed feelings as they remembered its past while looking forward to the new housing development.  WNBJ 39

HEALTH NEWS

  • Recent restaurant inspection scores for several West Tennessee eateries and school kitchens were released for inspections from August 30 to September 4—scores ranged from 87 to 100 and show compliance with local health standards.  WYN 106.9
  • Jackson-Madison County General Hospital will begin construction on September 10 of a new highly infectious diseases department—featuring 20 rooms—next to the emergency room. The project will shut down parts of Emergency Drive and parking areas until October 1 while keeping the main entrances open.  WBBJ-TV
