COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Downtown Jackson will host Craft on Main at Hub City Brewing on Saturday, September 27 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.—the event offers over 30 craft beers including a dozen from West Tennessee Homebrewers and free admission to enjoy local vendors, games, live music and food while raising funds for Habitat for Humanity. - ➤ This week is National See Tracks, Think Train week and officials urge Jackson residents to stay alert when near railroad tracks and crossings as students return to school. Experts warn that trains require over one mile to stop safely — a fact that underscores the need for extra caution in all rail zones. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ Jackson will host the 10th anniversary of Dancing with the STARs on October 23 at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, where six alumni couples (including college presidents, realtors, and educators) will perform to raise funds and awareness for people with disabilities. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Jackson City Council met on September 2 to discuss regulating kratom due to concerns over its addictive effects—Rep. Chris Todd said a doctor friend reported many cases of addiction and lawmakers will meet again on the issue. WYN 106.9
- ➤ On Monday, the Jackson Police Department swore in five new officers and one intelligence analyst in its lobby to strengthen its force — Deputy Chief Gary Benton said the recruits began orientation and will attend a three-month academy at Donnelson before riding with training officers. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ Monday, the Madison County Commission approved a $2 million purchase and lease agreement with the Jackson-Madison County School System for the 310 North Parkway building (the school board will move to a new location in 2026). The commission also ended the cell phone reimbursement policy (county workers must now use phones provided by the county starting January 1). WBBJ-TV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department is now called Madison County Health—its new name and logo simplify communication and focus on promoting community well-being. The department continues offering the same services and public health leadership to local residents. WBBJ-TV

- ➤ Jackson area fans can vote for the top high school girls athlete of the week for Sept. 8-13 until the poll closes at 12 p.m. on Sept. 18 — nominees include Rachel Edwards, Addison Kelley, Lola Greenway, Mylee McCullar, and Rylee Hood. The Jackson Sun
- ➤ The TSSAA football Week 5 schedule shows many high school games planned across Tennessee and out-of-state while some games will be broadcast on the NFHS Network. Schools will compete in games on (Thu) and (Sat) as the season continues. The Jackson Sun
