COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families can enjoy a safe Halloween celebration at the West Tennessee Farmers Market on October 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.—the event features music by DJ Von, food trucks, games and over 25 vendors handing out candy.  WNBJ 39
  • The Community Foundation of West Tennessee announced the 2025 award recipients—seven Jackson locals honored for their contributions in arts, education, healthcare, leadership, volunteer work, and youth. The Charity Gala will begin with a Patrons’ Party on October 2 at the Campbell Residence in Jackson—inviting guests to meet award recipients and sponsors.  WBBJ TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Jackson Rotary Club met today for an update on the Ford BlueOval City plant in Stanton where Ford plans to produce second-generation full-size electric pickup trucks with prototypes starting in 2027 and mass production in 2028—truck details have not yet been revealed. Ford is hopeful about the project and its future benefits to the local region.  WYN 106.9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hub City Theatre Company’s improv troupe — known for lively shows — will perform at The Carnegie in Jackson on Friday, September 26 at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, September 27 at 7 p.m. A family-friendly matinee on Saturday at 2 p.m. — inviting kids to laugh — will feature audience suggestions that shape every performance.  WNBJ 39
  • The Carnegie Center for Arts and History in Jackson is hosting a Suede and Blue Community Art Exhibition to honor the 70th anniversary of Carl Perkins’ hit Blue Suede Shoes — local artists can submit works in any medium until November 3 and the exhibition will run from December to March.  WYN 106.9

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Jackson job seekers can attend a multi-employer job fair Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the American Job Center on Whitehall Street—CoreCivic, Milan Box Corporation and other employers will be present, and a resume workshop will help participants update their resumes and interview skills.  WNBJ 39

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nissan Motor Corporation donated an Infiniti QX60 and a Nissan 370Z to South Side High School's Auto Technology program — the vehicles will help students learn hands-on skills in auto repair and maintenance.  WNBJ 39

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Invasive Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs are moving indoors in Jackson as winter nears—local resident Yvonne Jones and expert Jeremy Blaschke from Union University note that these pests have become common over the past decade, and Blaschke advises planting flowers to attract orange flies that prey on them.  WNBJ 39

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Earlier Wednesday evening, Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti delivered Union University's annual Constitution Day lecture about the American constitution and the continuing role of the states—students asked questions at the end.  WYN 106.9

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents in Jackson and West Tennessee will join the West Tennessee River Walk Challenge starting October 6 and ending November 16, where they must walk at least 90 miles to boost their health — registration is free and due by October 3.  WYN 106.9

SPORTS NEWS

  • Duece Lawrence, running back for Jackson Christian, led his team to a 40-10 win over SaintGeorge last Friday with 12 rushes for 151 yards and three touchdowns—earning him MVP of the week honors. He said he aims to run for 200 yards in the upcoming home game against Fayette Academy on Friday at 7:00 p.m.  WYN 106.9
  • Today, Trinity Christian (2-2, 0-1) will play Harding Academy (2-2, 0-1) in a Madison County high school football game. In their previous meeting, Trinity Christian outscored Harding Academy 60 to 8 as both teams prepare to compete.  The Jackson Post
