COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Madison Hall Community Day began at 8 a.m. Saturday near Steam Mill Ferry Road in Jackson to mark 100 years for Anderson Presbyterian Church, Madison Baptist Church and Madison Hall Community Center. The event offered open houses, fundraisers and activities—like a bake sale and free medical clinic—to support each institution’s programs.  WBBJ TV
  • Donnell Century Farm hosts its Fall Festival and pumpkin patch today—guests can pick pumpkins, enjoy scenic hayrides, pet farm animals, and watch pig races to celebrate the season.  WYN 106.9
  • The Racing So They Can Ride 5k took place Saturday morning along Vann Drive in Jackson—participants gathered at Dick’s Sporting Goods parking lot at 8 a.m. and included kids and adults running or walking a 5k, 10k or 1-mile course while paying entry fees to support Rein-Bow Riding Academy’s hippotherapy programs and honor Caleb Lott. The event raised funds for therapy programs at the local center.  WYN 106.9

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Velvet Volumes LLC hosted its grand opening event on Saturday at 8 a.m. in Jackson. The new bookstore at 300 East Main Street offered special discounts—such as a $10 signature tote bag, free coffee with a purchase at Turntable Coffee, and a raffle—and will operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.  WBBJ TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The North Side Indians played hard on Friday night when they beat the Dyer County Choctaws 56-27 in the Region 7-4A playoffs—building a strong lead in the second half.  The Jackson Post
  • Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar impressed coach Josh Heupel in yesterday's UAB game—completing 15-of-22 passes for 218 yards and three touchdowns—and kept his calm after an interception, a trait that set him apart this season.  The Jackson Sun
