COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On October 5, Le Bonheur will host its annual Pumpkin Run fundraiser in Jackson to support children in need. Kids will run a 400 meter fun run at 8:00 a.m. and others can join a 5K at 8:30 a.m.—all participants will receive a special ribbon.  WYN 106.9
  • Captain Jack Holland Marine Corps League Detachment 735 hosted its 10th annual Semper Fi Golf Tournament at Jackson National Golf Club Monday to raise funds for local veterans and Toys for Tots—22 teams competed in the event. Bryce West said the tournament has grown over 10 years with strong community support.  WYN 106.9

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Jacob Barker Music Festival will take place on October 3 and 4 at the AMP at the Market in downtown Jackson where live music will start at 5 p.m. on October 3 with Bob Sutcliffe singing the National Anthem — local bands will follow and a special check will be presented on October 4 to support Make-A-Wish Mid-South.  WNBJ 39
  • The Jackson-based Miss Tennessee Volunteer system is adding a new Miss Henry County Volunteer title to offer scholarships and personal growth for young women, with entry forms accepted for the pageant on October 5th in Paris at KPAC—this expansion continues to boost local business revenue during Pageant Week—.   WYN 106.9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Bill Lee and the Tennessee Department of Education hosted the Opportunities With Literacy festival at Isaac Lane Technology Magnet Elementary School today, where students picked six free books to help build their reading skills + boost their literacy.   WNBJ 39
  • The Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation and the Tennessee Department of Education are hosting the third annual OWL Fest this September to visit 40 priority elementary schools for free books and literacy materials — Monday’s event at Isaac Lane Technology Magnet Elementary provided each student with six new books, and three more Jackson-Madison County schools will be visited later this month.  WYN 106.9

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Jackson Energy Authority was recognized today for having the best tasting water in Tennessee and Kentucky — even though tests found trace forever chemicals in several Jackson water systems, including high levels at the South Plant. The Authority said these chemicals do not pose an immediate health risk and plans to remove them before the EPA deadline in 2030.  The Jackson Sun
  • As the second severe weather season nears, Jackson residents should prepare their homes by making an action plan for floods and tornadoes that includes knowing where to find high ground + checking local shelter options. Experts recommend having several weather alert sources, extra batteries, and an emergency kit with three days of food and water.  WBBJ-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Tennessee National Guard and Army Aviation Association of America have announced the 9th Fallen Aviator, Car, Truck, Bike Show, and Fly In, which will take place Saturday, September 27 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Jackson Regional Airport—admission is $20 and all proceeds will fund scholarship awards honoring seven fallen aviators.  WYN 106.9

HEALTH NEWS

  • Artificial intelligence is helping doctors perform bunion surgery with better foot alignment and reduced operating room time, as procedures now save up to 30 minutes—Dr. Michael Campbell said this method lowers the need for repeat surgeries.  WYN 106.9
  • State health officials warn that the dangerous Benadryl Challenge is on the rise in Tennessee as young people take large doses of the medication to cause hallucinations—this behavior has led to hospitalizations and deaths and remains life-threatening.  WBBJ-TV

  • Tennessee football will play Alabama, Kentucky & Vanderbilt as permanent opponents starting in 2026 as part of the new SEC schedule. Today at 7 p.m. ET, the SEC will announce details of its nine-game schedule that pairs three fixed opponents with six rotating teams.  The Jackson Sun
