  • The 14th annual Celebrity Golf Classic kicked off Tuesday morning at Bent Tree Golf Club—local celebrities participated to raise funds for the Follow Me Into Business program that provides job training and internships for local youth. The event is hosted by the Jackson-Madison County African American Chamber of Commerce.  WBBJ TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ten food entrepreneurs completed the ScaleUp Kitchen program and won prizes from $1,500 to $10,000, with GotDough Cookies & More in Jackson receiving the top prize. The program, led by theCO and Ford Philanthropy, provided workshops and a public pitch event (Taste & Tell) to help local food businesses grow.  WYN 106.9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Asia Garden, a staple in Jackson dining run by the Yeh family, is celebrating its 40th anniversary over the next couple of weeks—marking more than four decades of service. The restaurant will host local events to honor this milestone.  The Jackson Post
  • The West Tennessee Anime Club will meet at the Jackson-Madison County Library located at 433 East Lafayette Street on select Saturdays this fall—October 4, October 18, November 1, and November 15—from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Fans of anime will gather to share shows and characters in a free meeting open to all ages.  WNBJ 39

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Farmers and planters in West Tennessee are struggling after a wet spring and a very dry summer that left the soil hard and stressed— they expect rain through Thursday to improve growing conditions.  WNBJ 39

HEALTH NEWS

  • The annual Walk to End Alzheimer's will take place Saturday, September 27 at Rockabillys Stadium in Jackson. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the event will support dementia research and caregiver assistance.  WYN 106.9
  • Jackson Hearing Center is hosting Sounds & Sundaes where guests enjoy ice cream & receive hearing health information from providers who answer questions and share resources, as nearly 30% of people over 60 experience hearing loss.  WBBJ-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jackson Central-Merry's football team will play its first game on its new home field next week. The new stadium has been nearly a century in the making.  The Jackson Post
  • Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar, a UCLA transfer who threw for 371 yards and four touchdowns against Georgia, will play his first SEC road game against Mississippi State on Sept. 27 at Davis Wade Stadium. He is expected to help improve the Vols’ road record—raising hope among local fans.  The Jackson Sun
  • Coach Josh Heupel’s Tennessee team has a strong road record that outperforms most SEC teams, with only Kirby Smart winning more against Top 25 teams. The Vols’ solid home performance contrasts with key road losses—losses to unranked teams that have affected the team’s overall perception.  The Jackson Sun
  • Lane College’s football team lost to Alabama A&M today—24 minutes ago the contest ended with Alabama A&M showing a stronger performance on the field.  WYN 106.9
