- ➤ A local non-profit held its 20th Annual Canstruction food drive at the Carl Perkins Civic Center today — 17 teams built structures from canned goods to collect about 50,000 pounds of food for the community. Awards were given at a formal gala dinner — entertainment came from Jonnie W. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ Jackson's Cypress Grove Nature Park, known as the (Jewel of Jackson), will celebrate its 40th anniversary on Saturday, October 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 866 Airways Boulevard. The free celebration will feature nature exhibits and family-friendly activities that honor the park’s long history. WNBJ 39

- ➤ Tate Cronin from West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center discussed details for the upcoming Fall in the Gardens event, which will take place on October 2 and October 3. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ Jackson Symphony received a $250,000 donation from Matlock Companies to expand its Music Academy, Regional Music Centers and Music and Healing Program — the funds will help provide instruments, transport and other aid for students, seniors and patients. The donation will also grow free music lessons and healing concerts at local schools, hospitals and care homes. The Jackson Sun
- ➤ St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Jackson will hold a choral Evensong for Michaelmas on Sunday, September 28 from 4 to 5 p.m.—the service will be led by Organist and Director of Music Jeffrey Hoffman and sung by the parish choir to honor St. Michael. WNBJ 39
- ➤ Jackson’s Got Talent will take place on April 10 at The Ned and gives local performers a chance to show their skills while supporting child abuse prevention (created by Mary Billingsley with The Exchange Club for that cause). WYN 106.9
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ U of M Lambuth hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new Doctor of Physical Therapy facility, which will welcome its first cohort in the fall — the facility in Hyde Hall supports a small faculty-to-student ratio to meet local health needs and strengthen workforce training in West Tennessee. - ➤ The Tennessee Department of Human Services announced new SNAP work requirements for able-bodied adults without dependents, ages 18 to under 65, who may only receive benefits for three months in a three-year period unless they work, volunteer, or train 20 hours weekly; individuals (pregnant, disabled, enrolled in school, or caring for children) can request an exemption by submitting documentation through the One DHS Customer Portal by October 31. - ➤ Today, the Madison County Fire Department announced it received a $330,000 federal grant from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program—funds that will cover advanced EMS training costs, including tuition, textbooks, and backfill expenses to maintain service during training and to improve emergency response. - ➤ Jackson Regional Airport will host a TSA PreCheck enrollment event on October 2 from 6:45 a.m. until 2:45 p.m.—participants must bring a valid ID or passport to register. The event costs $79.95 for a five-year membership provided by CLEAR. WNBJ 39
- ➤ Tennessee Firemen’s Association hosted their 92nd annual First Responder Training Conference beginning Thursday at the DoubleTree hotel—this three-day event brought together local firefighters and emergency medical services and featured a speech from Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett on the challenges faced by first responders.
