- ➤ Union University hosted a Family Weekend—kicking off Friday with a cookout that raised funds for Make-A-Wish—and is continuing today with a disc golf tournament at 8 a.m., brunch at 10 a.m., and an improv show at 9 p.m. Families that missed Friday’s event may join soccer and volleyball games, attend class visits, and follow students to their new church home on Sunday. - ➤ The Jackson-Madison County Library will host the Friends of the Library First Thursday program on October 2 from noon to 1 p.m. at its main branch on Lafayette Street—this free event will include presentations by authors, educators, and poets along with updates on new library plans and a session on archiving personal mementos. - ➤ Local first responders and firefighters gathered at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church Friday morning to honor colleagues who died on duty in a memorial service—families received flowers as part of the tribute.
