- ➤ Jackson Fire is teaming with the National Fire Protection Association to warn residents about lithium-ion battery risks during Fire Prevention Week — the department will host a truck-or-treat event on October 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at its administration building on South Highland Avenue. - ➤ The Jackson Police Department is hosting National Night Out today with games and block parties along with free hotdogs and hamburgers at a block party on 234 Institute Street — an event designed to build community ties. WNBJ 39

- ➤ Average gas prices in Tennessee have risen 3 cents per gallon in the last week and now stand at $2.73 today—prices remain 10.3 cents lower than a month ago, with the cheapest at $2.37 and the most expensive at $3.69. GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations also shows regional variations in nearby areas. WYN 106.9

- ➤ Jackson State Community College announced today that Darlette Samuels is its first Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer to guide the college's growth and build new partnerships in West Tennessee. Samuels, who has over 30 years of work in education, will create plans to help students and the community—strengthening local ties for future progress. WBBJ TV

- ➤ On October 6, a City of Jackson Street Department employee — Wayne Dodd — stopped a small child from wandering along Highway 45 Bypass until authorities reunited the child with his family. WBBJ-TV
LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ Working women in Jackson are invited to a monthly event at the Icehouse of Jackson—112 East Baltimore Street—that will let them mix, relax, and share ideas over hors d’oeuvres and drink specials. The event will be held on the first Monday of each month from 4 to 6 p.m. and is the first occasion of its kind in the Hub City. WBBJ-TV
