- ➤ The Salvation Army Jackson Corps will host 'Hope Rings in Jackson: Music & Mission Red Kettle Kickoff' on Tuesday, October 14 at 6:00 p.m. at 125 Allen Avenue to launch its 2025 Red Kettle Campaign with live music, guest appearances & a call for volunteers, while local businesses take part in the Tabletop Kettle Challenge to boost funds for families in need. - ➤ Jackson Rockabillys is hosting a free movie night at Rockabillys Stadium on Saturday, October 11, where families will watch Disney's Haunted Mansion (2003). Gates open at 6:00 p.m.—the movie begins at 7:00 p.m. and guests can choose stadium seating or bring blankets to enjoy the outfield grass. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ At 9 a.m. on Monday, Jackson Street Department worker Wayne Dodd rescued a baby who ran onto the busy 45 Bypass—his quick action stopped a truck from getting too close. The baby is now safe at home with the parents and Dodd said he only did what needed to be done. WNBJ 39
- ➤ The Jackson-Madison County Library is hosting a free line dance program every Friday at 10 a.m. at its downtown location on East Lafayette Street where participants will work on strength, balance and heart health. The program does not require registration. WNBJ 39
- ➤ Community members in Jackson are invited to attend a free screening of the PBS American Experience documentary The Harvest on Saturday, November 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at The Ned — after the film, a panel will share local insights on school integration. WYN 106.9
- ➤ WRAP is leading its second annual Purple Sand Project to honor domestic violence victims and spread awareness during Domestic Violence Awareness Month—focusing on encouraging community members to recognize signs and offer support. - ➤ U.S. News and World Report released its annual college rankings on Sept. 23, showing many Tennessee schools moved positions this year. Some schools such as Tennessee Tech and Lipscomb gained spots while Union University and UT Chattanooga lost places—factors like student outcomes, finances and faculty resources were used to rank over 1,700 colleges. - ➤ Four meteor showers will light Tennessee skies in October with the Draconids (active until Oct 10 and peaking today), the Orionids (peaking on Oct 22-23), and the Southern and Northern Taurids (peaking on Nov 3-4 and Nov 8-9) set to create a month-long show. The Jackson Sun

- ➤ October is National Pedestrian Safety Month and local officials urge drivers to slow down for pedestrians—data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show a pedestrian dies every 72 minutes and one is injured every eight minutes.
