- ➤ The University School of Jackson will host its 2025 Holiday Mart at the Carl Perkins Civic Center from November 21st through November 23rd with a Preview Party on November 20th—organized by the USJ Parents’ Club, the event will feature local vendors selling holiday gifts and bistro food while raising funds for school programs. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Jackson is hosting its annual Calendar Party events at 309 East Baltimore Street on October 23 and October 24. The events have an 'Eras' theme with creatively decorated tables—each showing a different time period—and offer a Preview at 6 p.m. on October 23 for $25 or a Luncheon at noon on October 24 for $40. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ On October 9, the Greater Jackson Chamber—partnering with Madison County Government—received a $187,500 TVA Workforce Invest Grant to study childcare gaps and plan to add more slots. The grant will help local employers as they work to boost job access for parents in the manufacturing sector. WBBJ-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ West Carroll Elementary School hosted a story walk for literacy night at the Trezevant walking track near the school—students read 'The True Story of the Three Little Pigs' to learn about point of view and characterization. School staff gave cupcakes to those who completed a one-lap walk of about one-ninth of a mile at Trezevant Community Park. WYN 106.9
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State Rep. Brock Martin announced that four senior centers in West Tennessee will receive $65,000 in grants—supporting facility upgrades, meals and day trips for seniors. Officials said centers in Gibson, Carroll, Henderson and Milan will use the funds for essential services. WNBJ 39
- ➤ Jackson Police and transportation officials have urged drivers and pedestrians to stay alert during National Pedestrian Safety Month—stressing that slowing down and watching for people crossing roads is essential—so that everyone can safely share the streets. WNBJ 39
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ More than 67 million Medicare enrollees must review their coverage since open enrollment starts on October 15 and lasts until December 7—changes will take effect on January 1. Amy Niles of the Pan Foundation said reviewing options can help avoid higher premiums and losing needed medications. WYN 106.9
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Jackson golfers led both the boys’ and girls’ Division I and Division II Class A tournaments in the TSSAA state golf championships on the first day — they will compete on day two with a strong lead. The Jackson Post
- ➤ USJ Bruins won 49 to 6 over Memphis East and reached seven wins in a row with quarterback Cayden Creech throwing for 157 yards and 3 touchdowns. Coach Derrick Pritchard said his team will host Dyer County on October 17th at 7:00 p.m. — they focus on improving each week. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ Lane College's football team will face a winless conference rival for the second time in three weeks during their homecoming game— the Dragons hope to secure their first win this season. The Jackson Post
