- ➤ A bronze bust honoring late civil rights leader Shirlene Mercer was unveiled at City Hall on Oct. 14—on what would have been her 83rd birthday—with a large crowd gathering to remember her contributions to civil rights and education. The Jackson Sun
- ➤ Community members and Area Relief Ministries officials met on Thursday at Englewood Baptist Church (North Highland Avenue) to plan the Room in the Inn program, which offers hot meals, warm beds, and fellowship to help those in need. The service runs from November 1 to April 30 and welcomes local volunteers to join the effort. WYN 106.9
- ➤ Terry Blount from Parkway Christian Auto Club joined the local show to discuss the 18th Annual St. Jude Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show—he outlined plans for an event that supports St. Jude. WYN 106.9
- ➤ Birth Choice will host an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 1 from 1:00–3:00 p.m. at 391 Wallace Road to mark the opening of its new state-licensed adoption agency—local mayors will issue adoption proclamations—and guests can tour the clinic, agency, and mobile unit to learn how the ministry will serve families in the region. - ➤ Lane College is serving as a community partner for the 2025 Jackson Doc Fest, an international documentary film festival that will take place tomorrow at its Chambers-McClure Academic Center Auditorium at 5 p.m.—the event will feature an awards ceremony, red-carpet gala, live music, ballet, and a tribute honoring Charley Pride with a Lifetime Achievement Award. - ➤ The Tennessee Public Charter School Commission overturned the Jackson-Madison County School Board’s decision that denied the Jackson Museum School because of money worries (the state report found the school’s budget to be stable). - ➤ The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has partnered with the free Hunt Regs App to help hunters check season dates, bag limits and license requirements. The app also lets users report violations anonymously—sending alerts directly to local game wardens. WNBJ 39

- ➤ West Tennessee Healthcare hosted the ribbon-cutting ceremony today at 253 Bancorpsouth Parkway in Jackson—introducing its new centralized monitoring unit and eICU to add a second set of eyes for improved patient safety. WYN 106.9
- ➤ Dr. Amy Safaty from CVS Pharmacy advises Jackson residents to check expiration dates and restock pain relievers, electrolytes, and nasal decongestants as fall and winter respiratory season approaches.
