COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The CF Exotic Pet Expo returned to Jackson fairgrounds this past weekend—running on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—and gave visitors a chance to meet exotic animals like snakes, lizards, parrots, kangaroos and more. Vendors also sold pet supplies at the annual event held in Jackson.  WBBJ-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The University School of Jackson Fine Arts Department presents Frozen: The Broadway Musical, which brings popular Disney characters and a tale of sisterhood to the Blankenship Theatre (232 McClellan Road). A Sunday preview ran at 2 p.m. and the final show is today (7 p.m.).  WBBJ-TV
  • Jackson Doc Fest returned to Lane College on Saturday evening at the Chambers-McClure Theater—featuring an awards reception, red carpet ceremony, Ballet Arts performance, and gala—honoring West TN native Carl Perkins with the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award during the free event.  WBBJ-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jackson-Madison County Schools leadership invited elected officials, members of the Greater Jackson Chamber and other local leaders to Pope School to celebrate its new building that opened two months ago.  The Jackson Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Orionid meteor shower will peak tomorrow, Oct. 21, with stargazers expected to see about 20 meteors per hour under a new moon. Observers are advised to check the weather and choose a dark spot to watch the sky.  The Jackson Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At its meeting on Oct. 16, the Jackson-Madison County School Board discussed and approved a contract for legal services and a lobbyist group after more than 30 minutes of debate. Board members reviewed key details before finalizing the agreement.  The Jackson Post

SPORTS NEWS

  • Haylen Ayers, a West TN basketball standout, hosted a free basketball camp for kids in grades 2nd through 8th at USJ on Sunday morning—he led drills on dribbling, shooting and teamwork with support from sponsor Dynamix Physical Therapy of Milan. The camp ran from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.—other local athletes also assisted and offered guidance.  WBBJ-TV
  • The Tennessee football team will face Kentucky on Oct. 25 at Kroger Field at 7:45 p.m. ET—ticket prices start at $76 on sellers like Tickpick, StubHub, VividSeats, and SeatGeek.  The Jackson Sun
  • Madison County high school football teams have 13 combined games scheduled in the final two weeks of the regular season — every team is set to play both weeks.  The Jackson Post
  • TSWA and USA TODAY Network released the statewide high school football rankings for Week 10 of the TSSAA season — six new teams earned spots as votes were tallied using a points system from first-place down to tenth.  The Jackson Sun
