  • Jackson dealers report that new car prices now average $50,000 due to technology and quality upgrades — prompting families to consider certified pre-owned and used vehicles to help manage growing auto loan debt.  WNBJ 39

CRIME NEWS

  • The Better Business Bureau warned Jackson residents that scam robocalls are on the rise as some websites link phone numbers with cookie data. Toddnetta Trice advised checking website reviews before sharing personal information and using tips to block calls + noted that the Do Not Call Registry is offline due to the government shutdown.  WYN 106.9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The federal government shutdown that began in early October has lasted 20 days — and it could delay SNAP benefits for millions next month, state Representative Johnny Shaw said. Local food banks such as RIFA are preparing to assist families while federal funds remain on hold.  WNBJ 39

HEALTH NEWS

  • Madison County Health’s Public Information Officer Ginger Rowsey appeared on a news show to share details about the upcoming Fight Flu event & explained how the event will promote flu prevention in the community.  WYN 106.9

SPORTS NEWS

  • Residents in Jackson can vote for the boys Athlete of the Week for games played from Oct. 13 to Oct. 18 and the poll will remain open until noon on Oct. 23. Six high school football players, including JC Gray and KD Taylor, are vying for the honor.  The Jackson Sun
  • High school football is nearing its end as the TSSAA will set all nine playoff brackets on Oct. 31 with the first round scheduled for Nov. 7. The new Division I system groups teams into pods that mix runners-up and third-place finishers to delay rematches until the semifinals, and tiebreakers start with head-to-head results (further criteria include total wins and opponents’ records), while Division II teams qualify by regional standings.  The Jackson Sun
