United Way of West Tennessee + Community Foundation of West Tennessee have joined efforts to coordinate food drives, mobilize volunteers, and monitor local pantry needs as the federal shutdown delays SNAP benefits for over 690,000 Tennesseans starting November 1.

The foundation is also matching donations up to $40,000 to help food banks provide essential emergency assistance.

Food pantries in Jackson are struggling to meet rising demand after expected SNAP cuts forced Voices of Savannah to deplete its emergency supplies—Director Deborah Shaw said the pantry served 698 individuals and received over 25 calls about food insecurity while planning new strategies to secure donations.

Averitt honored Michael Wilson—an associate from Huntingdon—for 40 years of safe service at its Jackson-area facility on Express Drive.
