- ➤ UT Martin has launched the Center for Southern Art to support and grow the region's artistic programs. The center will host the Bellwethers Juried Exhibition closing ceremony on Nov. 14 at the West Tennessee Regional Art Center in Humboldt where public parking is available. WYN 106.9
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Jackson State Community College hosted a ribbon-cutting event today to open its newly renovated Veterans Center inside the Student Center for veteran and military-connected students—Major General Warner Ross, who began his academic career at the college, spoke and presented the TBR Chancellor’s Commendation to Athletics Director Kevin Lynum. - ➤ TnAchieves and West Tennessee Healthcare hosted a job shadowing tour in Jackson for Tennessee Promise students to learn about career options at the hospital—students visited departments like the emergency room, pharmacy, and radiology. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Jackson Animal Control finished its new animal care facility on Conalco Drive after years of delays and held a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday. The building now has room for 70% more animals and offers climate control — with a special medical area and quarantine zone to keep sick animals safe until they are well. WBBJ-TV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Health inspectors released restaurant inspection scores from West Tennessee with ratings from 68 to 100 for eateries in Jackson and nearby counties — results from inspections conducted between October 31 and November 6 show most businesses scored in the high 90s. WYN 106.9
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The TSSAA football playoffs first round took place on Nov. 7 in West Tennessee, and the scoreboard shows results from many high school games (including Coalfield's 51 to 6 win over Cloudland and Marion's 49 to 13 win over Jackson County). The Jackson Sun
