COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families on SNAP have struggled to feed both themselves and their pets amid delays caused by the government shutdown—nonprofits and local shelters have stepped in to donate pet food and help prevent unnecessary pet surrenders. In Lebanon, pet food pantries have seen a surge, with an increase from 75–100 families to 125 using the service in October.  WYN 106.9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • This school year, public schools in Tennessee will teach students as young as 5 what to do if they find a gun—lesson materials include games, quizzes, and interactive activities developed with the state Department of Education, and teachers or officers may lead the sessions.  WYN 106.9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Organizations partnered to present a new 17-passenger Ford Transit Van to the Veterans Honor Guard of Parker’s Crossroads, replacing an old van with over 350,000 miles, with Ford Motor Company, West Tennessee Veterans Coalition, Ed Jackson and Old Country Auto involved. The van—delivered in August—will help the Honor Guard continue to provide military honors across the state and honor veterans’ service.  WBBJ-TV

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Tipton County Animal Shelter featured Shug as Pet of the Week — a 2-year-old tan and white Pit mix known for her gentle, affectionate nature — and she will be spayed, fully vetted, and available for adoption to a loving family soon.  WYN 106.9

SPORTS NEWS

  • WBBJ recapped Week 12 high school football games from around the region—reporting scores and key plays for local fans.  WYN 106.9
  • Athletes from Madison County schools competed in the Basketball Frenzy at Liberty Technology High School on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.—with scrimmage games, player introductions, and a 3-point contest showcasing team skills. Jason Bridgeman of Jackson-Madison County Schools said he hopes strong family support will continue as the season begins.  WBBJ TV
  • Trinity Christian Academy won 55 to 7 over Franklin Christian in the first round of the TSSAA Division II-A playoffs as its defense played a major role — the win boosts the team as it prepares for the next round.  The Jackson Post
