COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City Councilman Johnny Dodd and Mt. Moriah Baptist Church will host a Thanksgiving Day luncheon on November 27 at 225 Daugherty Street in Jackson from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.—the event is open to everyone including the homeless, elderly and disadvantaged.   • On Veterans Day, several civic groups and volunteers gathered near Jackson as they hung flags and banners on I-40 overpasses to honor veterans—small flags were waved by attendees to greet passing traffic.  The Jackson Post
  • World Kindness Day is celebrated today to encourage Jackson residents to show small acts of caring like paying for a coffee or holding a door open. The international event began in 1998—demonstrating that simple actions can have a big impact in our community.  The Jackson Sun
  • Decatur County residents are encouraged to support local shops on Small Business Saturday on November 29—a national event that highlights the contributions of independent businesses. CULTURE NEWS

  • A new art installation is lighting up Anderson Park next to the West Tennessee Farmer’s Market in downtown Jackson. The sculptures are made with the same method—each featuring a unique design.  The Jackson Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Wednesday, leaders from the Jackson Madison County School System visited RIFA to pack snack backpacks and over 200 Thanksgiving meals as part of the Hunger-Free Holidays initiative—marking the fifth year they volunteered. They worked alongside RIFA staff to help support families in need.  WYN 106.9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local leaders met Wednesday morning at West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center to address the financial struggles affecting over half of West Tennesseans—government, industry and nonprofit representatives discussed policy solutions and provided a resource guide with actionable ideas.  WYN 106.9

HEALTH NEWS

  • Holiday travel and crowded family gatherings increase the risk of respiratory viruses, so local health expert Dr. Ruth Carrico advises residents to get vaccinated + wear masks, wash hands often, and stay home if sick, noting that older adults and young children are at higher risk.  WYN 106.9

SPORTS NEWS

  • In the first round of playoffs, Milan and Westview dominated while Lexington came from behind to defeat Haywood — a key moment in the matchups. Zach summarized last week’s games and said South Gibson remains hot as fish grease — his analysis points to teams moving into Round 2.  WBBJ-TV
  • Jackson Pugh learned he is a Mr. Football semifinalist after a missed call from head football coach Derrick Pritchard on November 6—he said he is thankful for the honor.  The Jackson Post
  • Wide receiver and safety Gabriel Lee from Trinity Christian Academy earned MVP of the week after he had three receptions for 67 yards, six tackles, one tackle for loss, three interceptions including a 60 yard interception return and one touchdown that led to a 55—7 win and broke his school record. He said intense practice helped him prepare and the Lions will face Middle Tennessee Christian School in the playoffs on Friday with kickoff at 7:00 p.m.  WYN 106.9
  • Bethel's Micah Hart was named Mid South Conference player of the week after a strong performance in a recent game+ his recognition highlights his impact on the team's season.  WBBJ-TV
