  • City workers in downtown Jackson are setting up Christmas decorations as they light trees at City Hall—lamp posts have wreaths and the courthouse is adorned with festive accents to welcome the holiday season.  WNBJ 39
  • Holy Spirit Lutheran Church will host a Bingo Day for senior adults on December 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. — the event will take place at 14615 Highway 194 South in Oakland and seniors can call 901-465-6103 for more details.  WNBJ 39
  • Beth Ann Simpson explained details on the 2025 Downtown Jackson Passport during her midday guest appearance as the program aims to boost holiday tourism in our downtown area.  WYN 106.9
  • The Exchange Club—Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse will host its 32nd Annual Blue Suede Dinner and Auction on February 28 at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, featuring the award-winning band Sixwire and a full lineup of auctions and dinner; the event will raise funds to support children in West Tennessee.  WBBJ-TV
  • Home Instead Jackson has revived the Be a Santa to a Senior program—aiming to bring Christmas gifts to over 100 local veterans—and is partnering with the West Tennessee Veterans Coalition to offer seniors a simple Walmart list of items under $20 with volunteer elves handling the wrapping; orders are due by December 1.  WNBJ 39

  • Family Dollar at 1011 Old Hickory Blvd in Jackson will close in January, and many shoppers have taken advantage of last-minute price cuts on marked down items.  WNBJ 39

  • Local organizer Larry B. Green partnered with Hub City Hemp and the 731 Rap showcase to bring Rapsgiving today at Catbird Studio—located at 2100 Pleasant Plains Extension, Suite G—where nonperishable food donations are accepted and a portion of ticket sales will support RIFA.  WYN 106.9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jackson Christian School celebrated 50 years on Nov. 13 and launched its Vision 2030 campaign—focusing on investing in faculty, campus security, and expanded facilities—to honor its legacy of faith, learning and leadership. The school, with over 830 students, continues its Christ-centered education in Jackson.  WYN 106.9
  • The Jackson-Madison County Library will host Dungeons and Dragons Nights—role-playing sessions for teens and adults—on November 20 and December 4 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 433 East Lafayette Street.  WNBJ 39

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After the shutdown ended, the Tennessee Department of Human Services began issuing partial SNAP benefits to households with shifted dates and reduced payouts — Governor Bill Lee said full benefits are expected to start on Monday, November 17.  WNBJ 39
  • The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development sent more than $2 million in Tourism Enhancement Grants to boost local tourism in West Tennessee — giving $36,000 to the Beech River Watershed Development Authority and nearly $49,000 to Tiptonville. The grants helped small towns upgrade venues, improve accessibility, and preserve local history.  WNBJ 39

HEALTH NEWS

  • November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and experts warn that early detection is key since plaques can build up 20 years before symptoms appear — Dr. Jared Brosch of Indiana University Health urged patients to consult their primary care physician for new blood tests and treatment options that help maintain independence. Nearly 7 million older adults have Alzheimer’s, a number that is projected to double in coming decades.  WYN 106.9
  • Dr. Edith Perez said knowing a tumor’s HER-2 status is key to guiding treatment—this marker shows whether the cancer may act more aggressively. One in 8 women gets breast cancer and up to 30% of early stage cases spread to other parts of the body.  WBBJ-TV
