COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Madison County FCE’s annual Christmas Cottage resumed at 9 a.m. today—offering free entry and featuring over 10,000 handmade items and homemade treats from more than 30 local members. The sale will continue until 7 p.m. today so visitors can find unique gifts and home décor.  WYN 106.9
  • The Jackson Senior Center opened today at 29 Westwood Gardens Drive after 30 years without one. The new $3 million facility offers classes and an activity room with games like bingo and scrabble — along with two pickleball courts — thanks to a generous land donation from Jimmy Anderson.  WBBJ-TV
  • The Jackson Madison County Library will host winter break events for kids including gift-making, story time and a visit from Santa Claus to provide a safe space for meeting friends and celebrating the holidays—helping children connect with the community.  WNBJ 39
  • Jackson's Habitat for Humanity received a $102,000 grant from Lowe’s to help seniors remain safe and independent in their homes in Madison and Haywood Counties. The funding will support aging-in-place repairs such as roof and floor fixes—work that boosts safety and accessibility for local seniors.  WBBJ-TV

  • Security Bank and Trust Company opened its new loan production office at 429 Walker Road, Suite B—set to become a full-service branch in early December. Market President Andrew Long leads the Jackson team to offer personalized banking services.  WYN 106.9
  • Vets 4 Vets, LLC is opening a new office at 250 N. Parkway (Suite 29) in Jackson to support military veterans, brokered by Heather Witherspoon. The veteran-owned business will start operations (December 1).  WBBJ-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Elle Jerge, a lifelong Jackson resident, has earned major awards and national scholarships for her jewelry making while studying at SCAD — she credits her mother with sparking her early love for art. Her designs, inspired by travels such as a trip to Monaco, will lead her to graduate in spring.  WBBJ-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Matt Dunagan, a 5th grade social studies teacher at Milan Middle School, was named Educator of the Week by the Tennessee Education Lottery. He has taught for 14 years and also coaches football—he said his high school teachers and being a parent help him connect with his students.  WYN 106.9

HEALTH NEWS

  • Recent restaurant inspection scores for West Tennessee were reported for November 14 to November 20, with many Jackson eateries earning between 90 and 100 and a few as low as 71. Scores are detailed for counties such as Madison, Carroll, Crookett, Gibson, Hardin, and Henderson (most establishments scored 90 or above) while no inspections were recorded in Chester County (the report covers scores for various local restaurants).  WBBJ TV
