CULTURE NEWS

  • A local group held a Christmas Carol Service at Green Frog Farm Church on Highway 412 between Jackson and Dyersburg at 3 p.m. Sunday, where people sang classic hymns to celebrate the season and marked the first event of its kind at the church, which also offers cabin rentals.  WYN 106.9

HEALTH NEWS

  • Doctors warn that a new H3N2 subclade K flu strain spreading in the U.K. — along with reports from Canada and Japan — could lead to a harsher flu season, though it has not yet been found in Middle Tennessee. The current vaccine may not prevent this strain but can lessen its severity, so health officials urge everyone over 6 months to get vaccinated.  The Jackson Sun

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Professional food eaters Katina Eats Kilos and Randy Santel took part in a public food challenge at KC Finns in Jackson where competitors had to finish six pounds of beef, a pound and a half of fries, and sodas. Both influencers won the contest and earned a free meal, a t-shirt — plus their name and photo in the hall of fame.  WBBJ TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • WBBJ recapped high school football from Week 14 Round 3 Playoffs—sharing scores and game highlights from regional matchups. The update detailed each game’s key moments for local fans.  WYN 106.9
  • The Tennessee Sports Writers Association—USA TODAY Network released the latest statewide high school football rankings for Tennessee teams in Division I and Division II ahead of playoff games. Division I state semifinal games will start November 28—while Division II championship matchups are set for December 4.  The Jackson Sun
  • Coach Rick Barnes said J.P. Estrella will not play in today’s tournament due to a bone bruise on his left knee while he expects Bishop Boswell to return after practice (the Vols face Rutgers at 1 p.m. on TNT/HBO Max).  The Jackson Sun
  • Tennessee football moved up two spots in the US LBM Coaches Poll after defeating Florida 31-11 in Week 13, and they will face No. 12 Vanderbilt at Neyland Stadium on Nov. 29 to complete the regular season.  The Jackson Sun
