Good morning, Jackson. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 28th of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • West Tennessee state parks including Pinson Mounds, Middle Fork Bottoms, Chickasaw and Pickwick Landing will host hikes after Thanksgiving so families and visitors can stay active and explore local trails. The events offer a chance to enjoy nature — a simple way for locals to get outdoors.  WNBJ 39
  • Families in Jackson and Madison County gathered Thursday and will continue meeting through the weekend to reflect on a tough year and share gratitude for what they have. The year brought minor flooding and one small tornado in May (which briefly shifted items at a warehouse near the Jackson Regional Airport) along with financial stress from political gridlock (which led to missed payments), yet local non-profits are stepping in to help those in need.  The Jackson Post
  • The 21st annual Gold’s Gym and Fleet Feet Turkey Day 5K took place early Thanksgiving morning in Jackson — nearly 924 participants ran in festive costumes to help raise funds for RIFA's fight against food insecurity. Over 20 years, the event has generated almost $190,000 from registration fees, marking a strong local tradition.  WYN 106.9
  • Music filled downtown Jackson as residents gathered at Hub City Brewing for the second annual Jamsgiving event and enjoyed live performances by musicians and singers. The event built on last year's success — the community now looks forward to the upcoming LOLO Christmas show.  WYN 106.9
  • Councilman Johnny Dodd & Mt. Moriah Baptist Church provided a Thanksgiving meal to nearly 600 community members, including the homeless, elderly & disadvantaged, to ensure they could enjoy a holiday dinner. The church also delivered meals to several homes & Dodd said he looks forward to continuing this annual effort.  WBBJ-TV

  • Local businesses in downtown Jackson have prepared holiday promotions as the shopping season officially begins today. Grubbs Grocery, Gylden Bakehouse, and Atelier Hats offer special deals including discounted turkeys, hams, baked goods, and gift kits — all to encourage local shopping.  WNBJ 39
