COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new study shows that Tennessee ranks in the top 10 states with 6.45% of homes offline (many rural and low-income areas face limited network and high costs). The survey uses Census data to explain how these gaps affect job searches, education, and healthcare access.  WBBJ-TV
  • The Jackson Santa House is ready to welcome children and families next week as Santa will greet visitors, collect letters, and spread holiday cheer before Christmas Eve. Santa will greet kids on Thursday and Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.—with an additional visit on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m.  WNBJ 39
  • The Festival of Lights is at Pugh Borne Park in Madison County and will run nightly from 5 pm to 8:30 pm until January 3 — the $10 per car event collects canned goods for charity and invites new sponsors. Matthew Martin said his team sets up about 70 displays two weeks in advance to ensure all the lights work right.  WYN 106.9
  • On Thanksgiving, firefighters from Jackson Fire Station 3 A-Shift delivered warm meals to unhoused neighbors in Jackson (providing direct community service) and aimed to remind everyone that no one is forgotten (affirming local care).  WBBJ-TV
  • Ward’s Christmas Tree Farm is at 20 Ward Road (east Madison County) and welcomes visitors Thursdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. until dark and Sundays from noon until dark. The tree farm will accept appointments on other days and will run its last week from December 6 through December 13.  WYN 106.9

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Academy Sports and Outdoors in Jackson opened at 5:00 a.m. on Black Friday, and many shoppers lined up as early as 3:30 a.m. Store manager Steve Johnson said the busy day was well planned — every team member had a set task to keep the crowd moving.  WNBJ 39
  • Local boutiques on Union University Drive joined Black Friday sales and now are preparing for Small Business Saturday today—Sassy Grace Southern Gent Boutique started early Friday with 50% off from 8–9 a.m. and 30% off later, and will offer 20% off today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., while Sage Boutique gave out $30 gift cards to the first 30 shoppers with 30% off and will run 75% off for the first customer today.  WYN 106.9

HEALTH NEWS

  • Restaurant inspection scores were released for West Tennessee establishments from November 21st to 26th, and many Jackson area restaurants earned scores ranging from 91 to 100 — the report covers several counties including Madison, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Gibson, Hardin, and Henderson.  WYN 106.9

SPORTS NEWS

  • Westview football beat Covington 40-34 on Nov. 28 with a 46-yard pass from Graham Simpson to Miles Brown that set up the game-winning touchdown—sending the Chargers to their fourth TSSAA state title game. Westview will face Gatlinburg-Pittman on Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. CT at Finley Stadium.  The Jackson Sun
  • Quarterback Graham Simpson threw three touchdowns as Westview beat Covington 40-34 on (November 28th) in a key semifinal. The team advanced to the TSSAA 3A state title game.  The Jackson Sun
