COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Jackson’s Parks and Rec Department announced winners of the 2025 Christmas Parade (featuring 180 registrants and over 3,000 participants celebrating a Superhero Christmas theme downtown). Winners were named in seven categories.  WBBJ-TV
  • On Dec. 2, Jackson residents gathered at City Hall to watch the Christmas tree lighting and parade, which started at Carl Perkins Civic Center and passed Chester, Shannon, and Main Streets before returning to the center.  The Jackson Sun
  • After a government shutdown delayed SNAP benefits, Olympic Steakhouse donated over $50,000 in food to The Salvation Army of Jackson, which restocked its pantry for weekly Thursday distributions at 125 Allen Ave to help local families in need.  WBBJ-TV
  • The Ned is offering free winter clothes with its Tree of Warmth program to help neighbors stay warm this season. The center will accept hats, gloves, scarves, and socks until February and asks donors to bring larger items to RIFA — ensuring everyone gets a fair share.  WNBJ 39

CULTURE NEWS

  • University School of Jackson will present 'A Christmas Story' December 12-14 at its school theater — shows will be held at 7 p.m. on Dec. 12 and 13 and at 2 p.m. on Dec. 14, featuring middle and upper school students in a beloved holiday classic.  WYN 106.9
  • Christmas at the Walk brings holiday fun, vendors and live music to Jackson as part of the downtown celebration; the event will run Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jackson Walk.  WNBJ 39

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TDOT announced road repairs will cause temporary lane closures in West Tennessee from December 3–10. Drivers are advised to check detours on major highways such as I-40 and SR-1.  WBBJ-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA recalled over 236,500 cases of shredded cheese sold at local retailers including Walmart, Target, and Publix due to possible metal fragments; the recall was initiated on Oct. 3. Shoppers in Tennessee are advised to return the product for a refund.  The Jackson Sun
