COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Jackson is hosting holiday events including concerts, plays, and festivals plus a visit from Santa Claus. The seasonal shows will be held at various local venues and aim to bring festive cheer to the community. WNBJ 39
- ➤ West Tennessee hosts many holiday events this weekend. Drive-through live nativities are held at local churches in Jackson, Reagan and Paris from 6 to 8pm — parades and holiday markets run in Kenton, Bolivar, Brownsville, Saltillo and Huntingdon from morning until early evening. WYN 106.9
- ➤ Casey’s donated $2,000 to the Mid-South Food Bank during grand opening events on Friday at its new stores on Ridgecrest Road in Jackson and on South Dupree Avenue in Brownsville — guests also received special offers with their purchases. WYN 106.9
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Jackson FUMC invites the community to a festive Lessons and Carols service on Sunday, Dec. 21 from 6 to 7 p.m. at 200 South Church Street, where scripture readings and traditional carols refresh the Christmas story for families and neighbors. WNBJ 39
- ➤ Union University’s music department held its annual Christmas concert Friday evening in Jackson, featuring choirs, instrumental groups, congregational singing, and scripture reading (a festive celebration of local talent). WBBJ-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Union University approved the purchase of the Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary property (located on Appling Road in Cordova) during their Dec. 5 meeting. The university plans to close on the sale in January and open Union University Memphis in fall 2026, moving operations from its 14-acre Germantown campus. WYN 106.9
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ From Dec. 1 to 4, restaurant inspections showed many Jackson eateries earned near-perfect scores while some nearby counties recorded slightly lower marks. The evaluations, covering restaurants, schools, and mobile vendors, help ensure food safety across West Tennessee. WYN 106.9
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ USJ Bruins lost to Nashville Christian in the State Championship game yesterday (ending the Bruins' season). WYN 106.9
- ➤ Graham Simpson set state championship records for most passing yards (510) and longest touchdown pass (99 yards) as Westview won the Class 3A title. The Jackson Sun
- ➤ The Boom Indoor Sportsplex, a state-of-the-art athletic training center, opened on Dec. 2 in Humboldt (the former Humboldt Junior High School was transformed into a professional training and internship hub). The venue will support Jackson Boom as it prepares for USL play and offers hands-on learning for students. WYN 106.9
