COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The sixth annual Christmas at the Walk market took place this past weekend at Jackson Walk Plaza. Booths from local artisans and vintage resellers brought extra shoppers to the area as holiday preparation gained momentum.  The Jackson Post
  • Jackson Police and Louis Fullerton Fraternal Order of Police Lodge Number 7 hosted a 'Cops and Kids' shopping event at Walmart on Emporium Drive this week so children could pick out presents with support from officers and the Boys and Girls Club. The event brought early Christmas cheer to the community.  WNBJ 39
  • Downtown Jackson businesses have kicked off the 2025 Tour of the Tree contest, inviting residents to vote for their favorite Christmas tree until Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 4 p.m. More details on voting are available on Facebook.  WNBJ 39

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Union University graduation is set for Dec. 13 at West Jackson Baptist Church; retired professor Kelvin Moore will deliver the commencement address at 10 a.m. with a second ceremony at 1:30 p.m. for graduates receiving associate, BSOL, and select advanced degrees.  The Jackson Sun
  • Liberty Technology Magnet High School hosted a final Taste of Liberty showcase on Wednesday as culinary arts students celebrated the semester by selling dishes (helping fund food purchases, repairs, upgrades, and supplies) for their program.  WBBJ-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials say Jackson residents should bundle up this weekend as an Arctic cold front moves into West Tennessee. They advise checking for signs — such as tingling fingers and uncontrolled shivering — especially for children and seniors, and recommend limiting time outdoors in the chill.  WNBJ 39
  • West Tennessee Medical Group announced it will open a new primary care center (and consolidate its clinics) in Jackson today. The decision was shared during a local broadcast.  WYN 106.9
  • Lifeline Blood Services is hosting its Holiday Hero blood drive today at 183 Sterling Farms Dr from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and another on Saturday at 1130 US-51 (Dyersburg) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations earn a free pizza voucher and t-shirt.  WYN 106.9

SPORTS NEWS

  • The USJ Bruins beat South Side on Dec. 10 in a game covered by reporter Zach Jones & the win will count in the season record.  WYN 106.9
  • Penn State’s Jim Knowles emerged as Tennessee football’s top candidate to replace Tim Banks as defensive coordinator, per ESPN’s report. He coached Ohio State’s defense to a national title in 2024 and is negotiating a buyout as Tennessee works to improve its defense.  The Jackson Sun
