  • Pemberton Cove in Jackson transforms every December into a festive Christmas wonderland with twinkling lights, holiday music and guest appearances from Santa, Olaf and the Grinch, where residents scan a QR code to donate to local nonprofits—decorations will remain through New Year's.  WNBJ 39
  • The Carl Perkins Civic Center in Jackson has begun installing new risers for the first time in 50 years. The $1.6 million upgrade will be completed by the end of January to improve seating safety and efficiency for upcoming events.  The Jackson Sun
  • The Jackson Transit Authority and Cadence Bank distributed free one-day bus passes and candy canes at the downtown transfer station today, sharing the Christmas spirit with riders. Customer Appreciation Day will run until 10:30 p.m.  WNBJ 39

  • Tennessee Education Lottery has named Shakayla Collins, a third-grade reading and social studies teacher at Andrew Jackson Elementary School, as Educator of the Week. Collins began teaching after leaving West Tennessee Healthcare in 2021 and is now eligible for Educator of the Month.  WYN 106.9

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A polar vortex is dropping temperatures in Jackson today with lows near 17°F while La Niña is set to bring milder winter weather and slight increases in rainfall later; experts say the change will ease by February.  The Jackson Sun

FINANCE NEWS

  • The Tennessee lottery now offers a $1 billion Powerball jackpot, making it the second largest this year and the seventh biggest ever. Ticket sales end at 9 p.m. CT today – the drawing is at 9:59 p.m. CT.  The Jackson Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Jackson announced winners of its 2025 ADU Design Contest on Friday. The winning designs will be turned into pre-approved plans for residents to build affordable & elder-friendly housing.  WYN 106.9

HEALTH NEWS

  • Tennessee health insurance premiums are expected to climb next year after the Senate rejected a bill on Dec. 11 that would have extended ACA subsidies. Top providers plan to raise rates by 18 to 20 percent for individual and family plans, putting added pressure on budgets.  The Jackson Sun

  • Jackson Christian's Lady Eagles remained undefeated after defeating Peabody on Dec. 11 (Zach Jones noted the team's strong plays during the game).  WYN 106.9
