- ➤ The Board of Trustees hosted a farewell reception for Dr. Frank McMeen, president and CEO of the Community Foundation, as he retires after 26 years of service while also serving on Jackson City Council. - ➤ Local shoppers can browse the Hub City Flea Market starting Friday, Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. in Jackson — the evening session offers early access before the market continues through Sunday, Feb. 8 with antiques and handmade finds. WNBJ 39
- ➤ Jackson residents have seen heavy ice build-up on roofs after days of snow, rain, and freezing temperatures, with professionals warning that up to two feet of ice may damage structures. - ➤ Raising Cane’s will open its first Jackson restaurant on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at Columns Shopping Center on Vann Drive. The opening includes a ribbon-cutting with the Jackson Chamber of Commerce and giveaways including a raffle for free Cane’s for a year. WBBJ-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Jackson-Madison County Schools have extended the closure until Monday, Feb. 9 due to hazardous road conditions from heavy snow. The district has provided digital resources for learning at home & is monitoring weather before classes resume. WYN 106.9
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, TDOT answered drivers’ questions about potholes, explaining that water freezing in pavement cracks and heavy truck traffic worsen road damage. Officials noted that temporary cold patching is used until milling and paving repairs can be made (a longer-term solution). WBBJ-TV
- ➤ Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti announced that states reached a $17.85 million settlement with Lannett and Bausch Health over price-fixing claims affecting generic drugs bought from May 1, 2009 to Dec. 31, 2019; consumers should check their eligibility by calling 1-866-290-0182 or visiting www.AGGenericDrugs.com.
