- ➤ The Jackson Rotary Club honored Dr. Carol Rothstein as the 2025 Woman of the Year yesterday in recognition of her leadership and community service. She has served as president of Jackson State Community College since Oct. 2023. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ RIFA celebrated its 50th anniversary on Feb. 12 by highlighting its fight against food insecurity in Jackson, and in 2025 it provided over 584,000 meals through programs such as a soup kitchen, snack backpacks and a mobile Bus Stop Cafe. The Jackson Sun
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Local leaders reflected on Rev. Jesse Jackson’s legacy after his passing Tuesday at age 84 in Jackson, noting his historic campaign visit which drew around 4,000 people at the courthouse and spurred future civic engagement. WNBJ 39
- ➤ Churches in Jackson held special Ash Wednesday services Wednesday evening to mark the start of Lent with scripture readings, hymn singing, and the traditional ash marking. At First United Methodist Church, one attendee said she plans to give up candy during Lent (a personal sacrifice) to honor the season. WBBJ-TV

- ➤ The West Tennessee Farm to School Institute held a day-long workshop at the West Tennessee Agricultural Research Center to help local schools connect with nearby farms—discussing school garden benefits, grant options, and more. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ Jackson's The Ned will host a Spring Break Performing Arts Camp for kids ages 6 to 12 from March 16 to March 20 at 314 East Main Street. Campers will develop performance skills and present a final showcase on March 20 at 6 p.m., with scholarships and family discounts available. WNBJ 39

- ➤ The City of Jackson has opened its 2026 Nonprofit General Appropriation Grant Application online today. Local nonprofits must submit detailed proposals including objectives, budgets and service targets (requirements are posted on the website). WNBJ 39
- ➤ The state honored W.G. "Sonny" Dement, Jr. by naming the I-40 bridge over Hollywood Drive/Highway 412 after him — the new name was unveiled on Friday, Feb. 13 along Jackson's western edge. The Jackson Post

- ➤ Four North Side Football players signed their national letters of intent today. Leonard Tucker will attend Tuskegee University, Xavier Spann will attend Lee Prep Academy, and Kymani White + Donta Sawyer will attend Bethel University, following a 6-4 season record. WBBJ-TV
- ➤ Union's Elijah Ramsey was named player of the week 25 minutes ago after a standout game, as reported by local journalist Zach Jones (a trusted voice in sports). WBBJ-TV
