- ➤ Jackson Regional Airport is offering a buy one get one free ticket deal for flights to Atlanta (2nd ticket subject to taxes and fees) and Chicago until the end of September (free parking is available) for travelers. WYN 106.9
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Melonie Shelby, a 6th grade science teacher at Lexington Middle School, is honored as Educator of the Week by the Tennessee Education Lottery today—she has 16 years of teaching experience and advises new educators to get in the classroom to learn through hands-on experience. WYN 106.9
- ➤ The Jackson-Madison County School System held its Teacher of the Year Banquet Friday at the Star Center to honor educators for their dedication. John Haley (West Bemis Middle School) was named Teacher of the Year and will represent the district in the regional selection, while Donna Currie (Jackson Central-Merry High School) and Laura Balcunas (Thelma Barker Elementary) were also recognized for their excellence. - ➤ Jackson Christian’s Jack Veazey claimed his second state tennis championship in a row—he won his match just minutes ago to add to the school’s proud sports record. WYN 106.9
- ➤ An analysis found that if last season had used the new straight-seeding College Football Playoff format, Tennessee would have hosted its first-round game at Neyland Stadium, beaten SMU and Georgia, and then lost to Ohio State in the semifinals by a double-digit margin.
