COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Greater Jackson Chamber held a dedication for the Men of Hope Sober Living House on Luray Road in Beech Bluff on Thursday—this new center is a free, nonprofit 12-month faith-based residential program where men and women receive mentoring, counseling and classes to help recover from addiction and abuse. - ➤ Local leaders like mayors and school presidents danced at the Dancing with the STARs fundraiser held today at the Carl Perkins Civic Center—where six pairs and Ballet Arts of Jackson performed. Awards for biggest fundraiser, highest dance score, and people’s choice will be given after the show—while tickets for the next event Black Tie Boxing are already sold out. WYN 106.9

- ➤ El's Snipe from Taziki's Mediterranean Café joined the show to discuss the launch of Kýpelos— a customizable bowl experience rooted in heritage. WBBJ-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Union University students kicked off homecoming with the Bulldog Olympics on Thursday evening and held additional events like an ultimate frisbee game and an improv show on campus, while today they take part in a soccer doubleheader against Auburn-Montgomery. The basketball game is scheduled for tomorrow against UT Southern — promising a busy weekend of competitions. WYN 106.9
- ➤ The Jackson-Madison County Library will host many November programs for children, teens and adults while the children’s department is closed for a restroom construction project — regular Story Time will resume on November 17. The library will be closed on November 3, 11, 27 and 28 — events include art classes, coding club, Dungeons & Dragons nights and more at 433 E. Lafayette St. WYN 106.9
- ➤ The University of Memphis Lambuth campus began Tiger Con events today with comic-con themed activities and trivia that will lead to a bus trip to the main campus for a larger homecoming celebration later this week (a campus security team is on hand to ensure a safe and engaging experience). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ TDOT said road work began on October 22 and will continue until October 29 in West Tennessee. Drivers should expect temporary lane closures—day and night—on highways including I-40 and SR-1 as repairs, resurfacing, detours, and reduced speed limits are put in place. WYN 106.9
- ➤ Tennessee residents must now get a free burn permit from the Tennessee Division of Forestry to burn leaves or host a bonfire—required through May 15—to help prevent outdoor fires from spreading. Jackson Fire Dept specialist Melissa Nelson urged residents to supervise their fires and keep water nearby at all times. WNBJ 39
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Tennessee football will try to bounce back from a loss to Alabama when it faces Kentucky on Oct. 25 at Kroger Field in Lexington (7:45 p.m.). Coach Josh Heupel, who has won four meetings with Kentucky since 2021, counts on star running back DeSean Bishop—who leads the SEC with 7.84 yards per carry—to drive the comeback matchup.
